WENDY ANDERSON has qualified for two national indoor finals due to be staged in Nottingham at the end of the month.

The Westlecot bowler, pictured, has reached the last 16 stage in the English Women's Indoor Bowling Association Championships in the Champion of Champions event and Over 50s Two Wood Triples.

The vastly-experienced Anderson, a former national champion, booked her place at Nottingham in the champion of champions with a 21-19 success over Betty Arnold (Solihull) in the zone final held at Banbury.

Anderson was in charge almost throughout but after leading 19-12 after 16 ends was pegged back to 19-19 all. However, a two on the next secured victory.

In the Over 50s Triples zone final also played at Banbury, Jean Bird, Josie Lloyd and Anderson triumphed 20-15 over Barbara Sparks from Birmingham's Erdington Court, to clinch a place at Nottingham.

It also gives them the opportunity to go one better than three years ago when they led the final, but were pegged back by a three on the last end and lost the extra end.

Westlecot will also have representatives in two other finals at Nottingham.

The trio of Joyce Laming, Josie Lloyd and Doris Woodley thrashed Yvonne Pick (Welford on Avon) 26-4 in the zone final of the national triples at Banbury.

But in the zone final of the fours the same three plus Maureen Rogers dipped out on the last end, losing 22-20 to Chrissie Grigg (Bromsgrove).

Westlecot's last place at Nottingham will be filled by Victoria Harding.

She will be making her debut in the national finals in the Under 25 Singles.

She had a tight game against Sam Shore (Rugby Thornfield) in the zone semi-final winning a tie breaker 2-1 after drawing 1-1 on sets.

But the 16-year-old took the zone final 2-0 against Solihull's Natalie Lewis 13-4 9-4 to book her place in the last 16 at Nottingham on Saturday, February 26.
