A NIGHT on the town ended with a special trip to hospital for a Highworth drinker.
The 29-year-old man was ordering food in a kebab house in Swindon Road when trouble flared.
Sergeant Max Sharman, of Highworth Police, said: "He was followed into the shop by a man and woman. The woman began shouting at the man.
"The victim assumed the woman was shouting at him and told her to shut up.
"Her boyfriend appears to have taken umbrage at this, and asked him to step outside for a fight."
After being punched in the head the victim fell to the ground and the two grappled in the road.
Police believe others then joined in, kicking and punching the victim.
He was taken to the Great Western Hospital by ambulance and treated for a cut cheek, head wound and bruised ribs.
The attacker was white, aged between 30 and 35 and 6ft tall.
His girlfriend was in her mid-20s, 5ft 10ins, with a dark complexion and shoulder length straight hair.
Anyone with any information about the attack, which happened at 11.30pm on Saturday, should call Highworth police on 01793 528111 as soon as possible.
