SWINDON has been going recycling crazy. The environmentally-minded residents of Swindon have recycled nearly two tonnes of plastic bottles since the first banks were introduced in November.
This equals approximately 40,000 plastic bottles and if they were placed end to end they would stretch from Swindon to Marlborough.
Coun Justin Tomlinson, cabinet member for Swindon Services, said: "This is great news. This is exactly the direction we need to be going in.
"Year on year we are improving recycling and that is a credit to both the local residents and council."
The new plastic bottle banks are at Waterside Park, Cheney Manor, Stratton Sainsbury's, Haydon Centre, and Wroughton Ellendune Centre.
The containers are for all household plastic bottles including those used for squash, milk, detergent, water and shampoo.
Swindon Council is reminding people not to leave other plastic packaging, such as margarine tubs, in the banks.
