A plan for the redevelopment of the County Ground will be put before councillors within a month.
Town's board of directors met with developers St Modwens and council representatives last week in the latest in a series of meetings to determine the best way of upgrading the existing site after plans to uproot to Shaw last year were blocked.
Bob Holt has now confirmed that the club are weeks away from finalising their initial proposal before a formal application is submitted.
"We're getting close," confirmed Holt. "We're going to put forward an informal proposal to the council at the next meeting in four weeks.
"They'll check it to see if there are any problems and we'll submit a formal application at the next available council meeting which they will approve or disapprove.
"There will also have to be some public consultation.
"We've been dealing with the council on the matter since October," he added.
"We've talked about our aspirations for the development of the County Ground and what we'd need to do to achieve that."
Holt and Co have consulted the council at every opportunity over the past five months to avoid the pitfalls which wrecked the mooted Shaw move.
As well as updating the existing stadium, the surrounding land which incorporates athletics and cricket facilities may also be relocated allowing for further development, be it retail or housing.
Holt said: "We've given the council our wish list if you like and they have made amendments and suggestions to that list.
"They've told us what would be acceptable and what wouldn't.
"For example, a high density, high-rise tower block no. But some tasteful apartments yes.
"Looking at the running track and cricket pitch, we could rebuild them in a fresh location which would benefit the athletic and cricket clubs.
"But we would look to maintain a sufficient amount of green space for the local residents to enjoy. Whatever we do it will be a low-density development.
"We wouldn't have an ASDA for example and if we were to include light retail it would be fitness and sport related.
"When we build something it will enhance the appearance of the area rather than detract from it."
TOWN'S opponents on Saturday are hoping to add Northern Ireland's Warren Feeney to their ranks.
Barnsley boss Paul Hart has confirmed an interest in the Stockport striker and hopes to land him before next month's transfer deadline.
