15245/03STUDENTS at Pewsey Vale School have been active in a number of ways to raise funds for the Tsunami Appeal.
Five year seven students Jess Willis, Heather Still, Fawn Blair, Jenny Nutland and Alex Johnson set up their own fundraising team.
During RE lessons students were asked for ideas of how to raise money for the appeal.
They came up with ideas including sponsored events, selling items made by students, sports events, a talent competition and a disco.
Some of these ideas are under active consideration but in the meantime, some of the pupils have made cakes and biscuits and organised a raffle and lucky dip and so far have raised £55.
Teacher Vicci Hay said: "I sometimes hear adults say that the youth of today don't care for anyone but themselves.
"Here's proof that that they do. They do care and they do make a difference."
Three pupils from John Bentley School in Calne ran 14 miles along the cycle tracks between Calne and Chippenham to raise money for the Tsunami Appeal.
Laurence Bromley, 13, Ollie Wall, 14 and Sean Broomhall, 13, ran the 14 miles in just over two-and-a-half hours raising £250.
Laurence, who runs cross-country for the school, said: "We saw the pictures on the television and we thought we should raise some money and do something about it."
Teacher Vicki Kennedy said she was amazed by the boy's efforts: "It's brilliant. Ollie came in one morning and said 'we are going to do this to raise money for the Tsunami'.
"I have got a lot of respect for them and their effort."
