DESPITE no signs of obvious activity, work on the new Co-op is under way at Redworth House, deputy mayor of Amesbury John Noeken assured fellow councillors last week.
He said most of the work done so far had been inside the building, and contractors had removed the old fireplaces and carried out an asbestos appraisal.
But he said he would be keeping a close eye on the situation and was seeking a firm date for the completion of the development.
Councillor Allan Peach also reminded everyone that the car park beside Redworth House was no longer council property.
"Cars parked in that car park are no longer insured because it's now Co-op property," he said.
