TEENAGE goalkeeper Chris Astley blasted his critics after saving a penalty and keeping a clean sheet on just his third outing for the Bluebirds.
After two disappointing performances in November, he produced an outstanding performance and a vital save from a spot kick that preserved Chippenham's 1-0 lead against Tiverton on Tuesday night.
Astley, 19, said: "I think I proved a few people wrong tonight. You have to play well for a whole season for people to think you are a good keeper.
"But if you have one bad performance like I did against Merthyr then people will say you are a bad keeper and judge you on just one game.
"But I am delighted with my performance and my penalty save, thankfully I guessed the right way."
The youngster received the man of the match award for his exploits and hopes to oust Mark Hervin from the number one shirt.
"I don't think I have done enough yet but I'm sure my time will come soon."
