A PENALTY save, a sending off and four goals were crammed into 90 minutes of exciting football as Chippenham marched to the quarter finals of the Southern League Cup on Tuesday night.
Strikers David Gilroy, Sam Allison and Martin Paul all put themselves on the scoresheet as Tiverton failed to contain the Southern Premier League leaders.
But it could have been a different story if it had not been for a tremendous first half penalty save by teenage keeper Chris Astley when Chippenham were just a goal ahead.
On the half hour mark the visitors pushed up field and ex-Torquay right back Steve Winter ran the ball into the right side of the box. He was at the byline when Matthew Mcentegart hacked him to the floor and gave the referee no choice but to award Tiverton a penalty.
Winter confidently picked up the ball and placed it on the spot but the young keeper guessed the right way and stretched out to his right to preserve Chippenham's lead.
It was only Astley's third appearance in a Chippenham shirt and his first clean sheet as he has struggled to keep his place in the title chasing team this season.
White, who made six changes to the side that beat Grantham on Saturday, was impressed with the 19-year-olds performance.
He said: "Mark Hervin has been suffering with the flu so it was important that we protected him, Chris' handling was excellent and he made a good penalty save."
White's selection headache continued to grow as all four strikers were on the field towards the end of the game and played their part in dismantling the Devon outfit.
"The four strikers are firing on all cylinders, we are looking at creating goals from all angles and I was left surprised that we did not come into the break four or five up."
On loan striker Gilroy opened Chippenham's account in the 17th minute when he latched on to a perfect through ball from fellow striker James Constable. He fended off the challenge from defender Chris Vinnicombe to power past visiting keeper Mark Ovendale.
The forward waited until the 75th minute to double the lead when Allison, who had just come on for Lee Davidson, made a blistering run down the left side and then crossed for Gilroy to volley in at the back post.
Martin Paul, who requested to be put on the loan list this week, headed in the third when he connected with a diagonal long free kick from midfielder Ellis Wilmot.
On the stroke of full time Allison made it four when he tapped in a cross from Gilroy, much to the delight of the 400 boisterous Bluebirds supporters.
The game was disrupted by a violent Tiverton side who picked up four bookings and a red card as they hacked at the home players throughout the 90 minutes. Midfielder Ian Harvey was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence in the 72 minute when he tripped midfielder Mark Badman.
White was surprised at the lack of discipline.
"They continued to take out our players as they could not get near them. But fair play to the ref as the players had to be booked and dismissed."
Chippenham: Astley, Charity, Mcentegart, W Thorne (Paul 54), Regis, Badman, Horgan (Wilmot 78), Davidson (Allison 54), Constable, Gilroy, Walker. Subs not used: Kirk, G Thorne.
