EMERGENCY volunteers in Market Lavington have appealed for more recruits on their first anniversary.
Market Lavington First Responders were set up by Wiltshire Ambulance Service and St John Ambulance after an audit criticised the ambulance service's response times in rural areas.
The volunteers administer first aid in the village until ambulance paramedics arrive.
Over the last 12 months, the volunteers, who include nurses, a bank worker and pub landlord, have attended over a dozen call-outs, involving everything from head injuries to chest pain.
Volunteer Steve Wragg, landlord of the Green Dragon pub, said: "In rural areas like Market Lavington it is vital to get help as soon as possible.
"The training from St John has given us the confidence to tackle most situations and administer first aid until the professional ambulance crews arrive.
"The first year has been eventful with call-outs to a wide range of situations, with some people just needing a little oxygen and reassurance and others needing hospital treatment.
"We are always looking for new volunteers so if anyone fancies helping out, they should get in contact."
Anyone wishing to become a first responder should contact co-ordinator Lorna Gough on (07810) 567844.
