15334/1BERNARD Taylor, head of physics at St John's School, Marlborough, has scooped a top teaching award.
Mr Taylor, who has taught at the school for ten years, has been awarded the Salters Horners Advanced Physics Teacher's Prize.
At a ceremony at the Salters' Hall in the City of London he was presented with an inscribed rose bowl and a cheque for £1,000.
He intends to use part of his prize money on data logging equipment for use in SHAP physics teaching.
Judges from SHAP went to St John's to watch Mr Taylor teaching A-level physics. A spokesman said they were impressed by his enthusiasm and the activities for students.
Headteacher Dr Patrick Hazlewood, who nominated Mr Taylor, said: "We are proud of the wide reputation he has in the physics world and for his inspirational teaching."
