Ref. 75987-7 Emma Gilbert (left) from Dettol and project manager Lynn Turner at the Walcot family centreA SWINDON family centre is a safer place, thanks to the donation of a new security system.

The Walcot Family Centre was forced to move after the wooden hut in Essex Walk was destroyed in an arson attack last year.

Staff have moved to new premises in Sussex Square but they had been concerned about security because it is so close to a busy shopping centre.

Project manager Lynn Turner said: "We were contacted by the Dettol foundation which was wanting to help local groups.

"Our heating had just broken down in our old premises so initially they were going to help fund that. But then we had the fire so we had to move to Sussex Square."

The centre contacted Dettol again to see if the money could be used to install security for the building.

Miss Turner said: "The building was quite open, next to the shopping centre, and members of the public could walk in and out.

"Now we have had a buzzer entry system installed to make children, members and workers more secure."
