THIS latest fixture for Devizes saw them share the honours with local rivals Marlborough on Sunday morning at the Chivers Ground on London Road.
Both teams looked to use the width of the pitch and to move the ball around, giving the spectators much to enjoy in the springlike sunshine.
Game one was a high scoring 25-25 draw as both teams exploited the gaps in two sleepy defences.
After a change of personnel for both teams, Marlborough shaded the next game by 20-15 with a fine solo try in the last minute.
But the Devizes players showed character as well as skill to raise their game for the final match and secure a 20-10 win.
Though there were some fine individual tries from Tommy Joyce and Ben Holland, what was most pleasing about Devizes' performance was their team work in passing and supporting to create tries.
The try of the day came from a Marlborough dropped ball which was quickly turned into a Devizes attack by Tim Bradley, moved wide by William Blakeney and Oliver Wakefield and scored in the far corner.
The Saddleback defence was - as traditional a little slow to get together but Peter Burroughs, Archie Combe and James Coxon stood their ground well and Kieran Hiscock made sure that the first receiver was always under pressure.
As usual everyone gave 100 per cent commitment in the games.
Congratulations to new boy Sam, who was not only having his first day at the club and his first match for Devizes, but learned so fast that he was perfectly positioned to take the scoring pass for the final try.
