POOR finishing cost Westbury dear on Saturday as they failed to live up to the standards they have set in recent games.

Wayne Wheeler's superb second half curler stood out in an afternoon of missed chances against a side below them in the league.

While a 4-1 score line can never look good, manager Paul Brickley felt Westbury deserved far more for their share of the play.

He said: "We were quite unlucky. They had five shots and scored four goals although they played reasonably well to be fair to them. We created a good 15 or 16 chances and only scored one. We just didn't have our shooting boots on.

"The performance was down on what it's been for the last few weeks really. I didn't think we defended as a unit.

"These are the sort of games that we should be winning."

Saltash were immediately on the attack and star man Glynn Hobbs opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a smart flick over goalkeeper Lewis Porter.

Marc Lanfear twice forced saves visiting keeper Martin Piper while veteran defender Mark Pearce blasted over with the goal at his mercy. Porter pulled off a fine double save from Hobbs before the same player set up Saltash's second on 40 minutes.

Porter could only watch as Brian Jeffries chipped the ball into his top corner. Player-coach Matty Bown entered the fray after the break as Paul Beavers dropped into midfield. The switch almost paid dividends as Beavers shot inches wide after a 50 yard run.

Steve Simms put the game beyond doubt on the hour mark before Wheeler hit back after 69. Westbury piled on the pressure, but James Donnellon rubbed salt in their wounds with a late fourth.
