CUP luck ran out for Trowbridge Town on Wednesday night when they were outmuscled by a direct if not always fluent Almondsbury Town.

The visitors had come through the previous three rounds of the Norman Matthews Floodlight Cup on penalties, but there were no nerves jangling at the climax of this semi-final.

Second half strikes from Matt Berry and Ryan Couzens cancelled out a decent Trowbridge start and left manager Neil Kirkpatrick "disappointed and frustrated" at his side's performance.

He said: "We certainly have not been played off the park. For 25 minutes in the first half we were superb.

"I was disappointed with the goals we conceded, they were basic mistakes. Gordon Saunderson had a couple of chances, which on another day would have gone in.

"We knew about their long throw-ins beforehand, but it was still difficult to deal with. You've got to give Almondsbury credit, they stopped us from playing in the second half."

The Bristol side got off to a flier when Craig Davidge dribbled his way down the right side of Trowbridge's penalty area and shot across Adam Shepperd into the corner.

Left back Luke Smith appeared to have been caught cold and his team took time to settle in the windy conditions. Trowbridge did wake up and their best period of play saw them equalise on 24 minutes.

Gavin Eyre jinked inside from the right before some neat passing found Adam Nunn 15 yards out. He beat his man to fire a low left foot shot into the bottom corner that Dimitar Demitriov should have saved.

Almondsbury repeated their first half trick with a second on 48 minutes. Trowbridge failed to deal with another long throw and Berry pounced on Shepperd's weak punch to smash home.

Substitute Couzens slotted a third on 78 minutes after being given too much space and Trowbridge never looked like completing a remarkable comeback.
