LOTS of questions are raised by the recent events. I find it extraordinary that cement works' staff acted on their own initiative in misrepresenting the relative quality of the cement.
What was their motive? Are they being investigated?
Lafarge is causing anxiety by burning old tyres and recycled solvent mixtures. There is concern about the suitability of the cement kilns as waste incinerators and the future effects of particulate or fume fall-out on the local population.
Is Lafarge altogether now going too far beyond the original remit of the Blue Circle works, as makers of high-quality Portland cement for construction, with ill consequences all round?
