ROYAL WEDDING: PRINCE Charles has spoken of his delight that he and Camilla Parker Bowles will wed.

In a statement released by Clarence House he said: "Mrs Parker Bowles and I are absolutely delighted. It will be a very special day for us and our families."

Later as he attended an official engagement at Goldsmiths' Hall in the City of London watched by scores of journalists and cameras, the Prince said he was "very excited."

The Queen has given her son and heir formal permission to marry and also her warmest good wishes. In a brief statement issued on her behalf by Buckingham Palace, she said: "The Duke of Edinburgh and I are very happy that the Prince of Wales and Mrs Parker Bowles are to marry.

"We have given them our warmest good wishes for their future together."

It has emerged that the wedding will not be a grand state occasion and will mainly be attended by family and friends.

Clarence House has not ruled out televising the event.

Hotels near Windsor Castle are already attempting to cash in on the royal marriage with some putting prices up to £1,000 a night for April 8.
