ROYAL WEDDING: LOYAL royalist Mary Ratcliffe has called for Prince Charles to renounce his right to the throne following the announcement that he will wed Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Mrs Ratcliffe, who is well known in Swindon for her impersonation of Queen Victoria at events such as the Old Town festival, said it could spell the end of the monarchy.

"This decision is going to cause a terrific division," she said. "Charles should renounce his right to the throne. It's an unbelievable situation. I'm very, very disappointed about it.

"I do wonder whether by the middle of this century there will still be a monarchy."

Mrs Ratcliffe said people would not accept Camilla as a member of the royal family because of feelings towards Diana.

"The worldwide love for Diana is not going to die. She was the epitome of every human frailty.

"The scenario that the Parker-Bowles children become royalty through this union is totally unacceptable. The only people to score from this calamitous decision is the republicans for it has signalled the end of the monarchy with two extremely selfish people in line to the thrown."

"I feel that from an historic point of view the kindest thing to do if this country is to remain a monarchy would be for them to make way for William."
