IT has been known for the planning departments to be wrong with schools either too big or too small, and land allocated for industrial use not used.

The Dorcan industrial site has more than 50 per cent of plots boarded up, pulled down or just empty, not to mention the empty Renault Building etc.

So when the planners say Swindon "needs" 24,000 extra houses can we believe them?

Maybe houses will follow the industrial sites and finish up unsold, with less desirable areas boarded up, as has happened in parts of the north of England?
