I WAS amazed at the letter in the Advertiser on February 9 from Sarah Gunter, of Freshbrook, about the proposed changes to schooling in West Swindon.
Speaking as a father of two at Freshbrook School, I am completely in support of Mr Luke's views, that we should be looking forward as a community and preparing our children for the 21st century.
I have never felt at any time that my children are anonymous, and all the staff at Freshbrook know both of my children.
They have taken the time to get to know them and cater for their individual and specific needs, and not because they spend their time outside the office for being in trouble.
The view of keeping both schools the same is a short-sighted one, when there is the potential to create a future-proof school fit for the 21st century, with the investment in technology to match.
Surely, in the long-term it is better to invest money in new buildings and equipment on land they already own rather than pushing the school into older buildings that are expensive to maintain and run?
The amalgamation of both schools into one, would I feel, benefit all involved, both socially and academically, after all isn't that the main aim here, to give our children the best start in life?
