TWO of First Great Western's new look carriages have been delivered to Steam, the Museum of the Great Western Railway, but they have been kept completely under wraps.
The 38-ton train carriages measure 46-metres in total length and arrived securely wrapped and completely covered to keep them from prying eyes until their unveiling at a launch ceremony next Thursday.
Three members of staff took six hours to help a specialist removal team unload the carriages and transfer them into the museum.
First Great Western representatives would not comment on what the secret carriages might look like, but Elaine Wilde, Head of Corporate Communications of First Great Western said: "We're very excited about the arrival of these carriages to Steam and we think the public will be too. These carriages are a unique project for us."
John Short, Director of Swindon Services added: "We're delighted that Steam will be hosting such a prestigious event and we're very excited to see what the new carriages will look like."
l A toy railway made entirely from Lego is steaming into Swindon this month.
The miniature railway display will go on display at the Steam Museum on February 19.
The display features a variety of steam and diesel trains along with some custom rolling stock, scenery, bridges and stations.
Coun Justin Tomlinson, Cabinet Member for Swindon Services said: "It will be fascinating for visitors to be able to compare the models with the full-size locomotives on display in the museum."
