WILTSHIRE police are hoping that 2005 being the National Year of the Volunteer will encourage more people to consider becoming special constables.
On February 25 and 26 a National Specials' Weekend is taking place and all over Wiltshire volunteers will be tackling targeted anti-social behaviour problems.
A spokesman for Wiltshire police said: "Being a special constable is a rewarding way to occupy your spare time. It's a commitment to yourself and your local community."
There are currently 170 special constables in Wiltshire. Anyone interested in volunteering can attend a special awareness evening at Swindon Central Police Station on March 8.
There will also be special constables available to talk to potential volunteers at Swindon, Wootton Bassett and Cricklade police stations.
