ALICIA HAZZARD could be set to become Swindon's first women's international footballer.
The Swindon Town Ladies under 15 midfielder has been selected as part of the squad for the England Girls Development Camp which is being held at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre, near Newport, Shropshire, from today until Thursday.
Alicia, 15, who lives in Old Town, attends Commonweal School, and has been associated with Swindon Town Ladies and Coleview from the age of nine before the two clubs amalgamated in 2003.
Kerry Lewis, Swindon Town Ladies under 15 manager, said: "This is just reward for all the hard work Alicia has put into her game.
"We are very proud of her and always knew that she was a special player, and this goes to prove it.
"Alicia has very good balance and ability and has had the scouts watching her.
"Everything runs through her in the midfield, she has tremendous vision and passing ability.
"She makes a big difference to our side. The under 15 side has only lost twice in the past two seasons and Alicia did not play in either of the matches."
Proud father Tim said: "She is really looking forward to the training camp, it is a great opportunity for her.
"Alicia has been interested in football ever since she has been able to walk.
"She first played with the boys at Croft before switching to girls football with Coleview and then Swindon Town.
"She is a very sporty person but football is her first love."
As well as playing football for Swindon and Wiltshire, Alicia is a member of the Reading Academy. She trains with them once a week and plays for their under 16 side on Saturdays against all the top clubs in the country.
She is a keen sportsperson and has played county tennis for Wiltshire, but now only plays for Swindon Tennis Club.
