SWINDON Council has come third in a survey of how well local authorities answer residents' building maintenance needs.
In 2003-4 Swindon Services' building maintenance section made and kept 97 per cent of its appointments for requested repairs.
Of the 32 unitary authorities participating, only Warrington (97.2 per cent) and York (97.1 per cent) came out ahead of Swindon.
Out all councils in the country, Swindon was the 20th best performing in the country, out of a total of 175 authorities which supplied data.
Cheltenham and Uttlesford, in Essex, topped the table with 100 per cent scores.
Coun Justin Tomlinson, cabinet member for Swindon Services, said: "I am extremely encouraged with these results, as we take very seriously the need
to respond to local residents requests.
"To be in the top 20 nationally is a
credit to the hard work of our Swindon Services staff".
