NEW safety guidelines on school trips may not stop teachers from being sued if something goes wrong, warn Swindon's unions.
Guidelines on the supervision of school trips are being announced today following calls from the NASUWT union for teachers to boycott outings.
NASUWT has warned that parents are highly likely to sue staff if their child is injured on a trip.
And Phil Baker, Swindon branch secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, says the new guidelines won't necessarily change that.
"I welcome the fact that the Government is recognising that there is a problem. But I believe that teachers will still be wary they may fall foul of one of the regulations.''
Ian Hill, Swindon branch secretary of the National Union of Teachers, said: "Teachers need to be protected."
