WILTSHIRE'S Independent Visitor Scheme is looking to recruit people across the county to offer support to young people.
The project is aimed at visiting, befriending and supporting young people who are looked after by the local authority in foster, residential or other accommodation.
In carrying out their role, the young person's visitor could take them for a game of pool, go to a caf, visit somewhere new or just have a chat .
The Wiltshire County Council led initiative is looking for anyone who is over 21 and a good communicator.
The candidates must be able to make a long-term commitment to meet with the young person for a couple of hours once or twice a month.
No formal qualifications are required, although patience, open-mindedness and an understanding of young people's issues are all essential.
Training and on-going support is provided, together with a mileage allowance and out-of-pocket expenses.
Sheila Lupton, Wiltshire County Council's independent visitor manager, said: "The Independent Visitor Scheme is great for both volunteers and young people.
"We match independent visitors with young people according to their interests, personalities and preferences.
"This means they usually get on really well and often become friends for life."
