THREE runners from the Swindon area are in the ideal position to spur each other on, with just 60 days to the London Marathon.

Sue Horrobin, from Cricklade, her daughter Kathleen and Kathleen's fianc Steven Payne are upping the pace as the big race draws nearer.

The trio have been training together and giving each other valuable support in preparation for the 26-mile race on April 17. They will be raising money for children's charity, Victa, which helps visually impaired children.

Foster carer Sue, 48, who won Cricklade's super-mum contest twice in 1993 and 1994, said: "I ran a couple of marathons back during 1991-92 but I really wanted to run one with my daughter and so that's what we finally agreed."

Kathleen, 22, and Steven, 26, live together in Wroughton.

Sue said: "It's going to be hard work but we all have each other for support.

"I know what I should be running at the moment, from my previous experience. But as a foster carer it's difficult to find the time and squeeze the exercise time in.

"I try to get a two-hour run in each week and squeeze in shorter runs when I can.

"We are also trying to find sponsors, but the Shepherds Rest at Foxhill has been very good and sponsored us £100."

The London Marathon takes in some of the most familiar sights of the capital,.

The idea for a London marathon formed in 1979 and the first one was held in 1981.
