IT appears that new evidence, in the form of exchanges between the Prime Minister and the Attorney General, confirm Mr Blair thought that Saddam Hussein was lying to the UN when he presented a report which stated Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction.
The Prime Minister clearly felt this was a falsehood and he declared his absolute conviction that Iraq did possess WMD, moreover he asked us all to believe him as he was in possession of intelligence data which was absolutely spot on.
It is now clear that Mr Blair was sadly mistaken and that Saddam Hussein was telling the truth he had no weapons of mass destruction and no means of creating such weapons.
I do not doubt he harboured ideas about wanting them but that is not the same as possessing them or being able to use them.
Mr Blair now declares he believes it right that Saddam and his regime have gone, but this is the same Tony Blair who offered Saddam and his sons the opportunity to continue to dictate affairs in Iraq, all they had to do in return was let the inspectors have free access to look for WMD (which we are now told were never there).
Funny world we live in, isn't it?
