GAZETTE & HERALD: A court has asked for a psychiatric report to be compiled on a depressed sex offender Danny Rogers after he admitted inciting a 12-year-old girl to commit an indecent act.
Rogers, 33, of Portway, Chippenham, was told by Swindon Crown Court on Friday he could face a prison term.
But Rogers, who was also found with some cannabis on him when he was arrested, will be seen by a psychiatrist before he is sentenced.
At an earlier hearing Rogers pleaded guilty to a charge under the sexual offences act and to possessing a class C drug.
The sex offence took place in the Lowden Hill area of the town on Saturday July 24 last year and the drugs matter four days later when he was arrested.
At a hearing last month the case was adjourned so that a pre-sentence report about him could be prepared by the probation service.
Judge John McNaught told him at that hearing "Whatever the report says these are serious matters for which a prison sentence is probably inevitable."
But the matter has been put off again so that Rogers, who has attempted suicide in the past, can bee seen by a psychiatrist.
Liz Cunningham, defending, said that the probation service had recommended a psychiatric report be compiled on her client.
"He met the recommendation with some relief. It is something he spoke to his GP about on a previous occasion," she told the court.
"There are psychiatric concerns arising out of latent difficulties from childhood which may explain some of the offending behaviour in Mr Rogers' past. Mr Rogers has felt depression has characterised his adult life but never been treated."
Rogers, she said, is full of remorse for what he had done and cannot explain his actions.
"He still says he hates himself for what he did to the girl. He lives with a self-imposed stigma of what he did," she said.
He was released on bail on condition he does not contact the victim or go near to her address.
