PURTON helped to serve up the game of the day in Division One West but that will be of little consolation to the Red House faithful.
Chris Pethick's men seemed to have secured a dramatic late point before they were hit by an even later sucker punch in an amazing 5-4 defeat at Hook Norton.
Purton trailed 3-0 at half-time and looked dead and buried at 4-0 down just three minutes into the second half. But Ryan Keech's goal on the hour mark sparked a rousing comeback.
Keech fired in a second on 68 minutes and the away side were given real hope when Darren Brown struck with a quarter of an hour to go.
Simon Bryant then levelled with two minutes to go only for Hook Norton to pinch a heartbreaking stoppage-time winner and undo all Purton's hard work.
Cirencester United were also hit by a last-minute sucker-punch in their 2-1 defeat at Headington.
Malmesbury Vics who have signed former Melksham boss Nigel Tripp as a player had their home game with Winterbourne postponed.
In the Premier Division, Fairford were impressive 3-0 home winners against Hungerford thanks to an early goal rush.
Terry Moore opened the scoring within two minutes and Dave Toomey got off the mark from the penalty spot to put the home side two up 90 seconds later.
Kenny Hawkins' 24th-minute strike put the Cinder Lane outfit in cruise control for the rest of the game. Fairford remain ninth though, as eighth-placed Almondsbury destroyed Bicester 10-1.
Wootton Bassett's scheduled trip to Bishops Cleeve was called off and Highworth were also inactive, although the other leading lights failed to take any great advantage.
