KELVIN Highmore branded his side's performance on Saturday as pathetic before declaring his priority is promotion to the Screwfix Premier.

A goal from striker Ben Highmore was the visitors' only consolation as they crashed out of the Wiltshire Senior Cup at the quarter final stage, bringing their 14-match unbeaten run to an end.

The manager's thoughts quickly turned to the league table where Calne fell a further point behind leaders Radstock as they drew 0-0 at strugglers Saltash.

That opened up a six-point gap but Calne have five games in hand over their rivals.

He said: "The league has always been our priority and although I am disappointed in the way we went out of the cup, everyone at the club is talking about the league."

Highmore is now focusing on Saturday's match when they play host to relegation battlers Chard Town.

"It will be an awkward match as they are fighting at the bottom. They beat us at their place and it will be a difficult game."

Despite being disappointed with Saturday's performance, and going out of the county cup, Highmore still had praise for his players.

He said: "I was in shock, I did not know what happened.

"The whole team had a bad day at the office but every team is allowed one every now and again.

"I'm not putting my players down as they have been superb for me this season."

Highmore only made one change from the side that beat Ilfracombe last Saturday, Paul Haines replaced Gareth Evans in goal as the ex-Melksham keeper was cup tied.

It could have been a different story had Ben Highmore's shot from a Simon Gardner throw not flashed inches wide of the post on 24 minutes.

Late in the first half the hosts took the lead when Bemerton ripped Calne apart with a fine display of passing, which allowed Neil Cole to finish past Haines.

On the stroke of half time the lead was doubled when Stuart Naite smashed in a thumping 20 yard free kick. Five minutes after the interval Ian Chalk extended the advantage when he finished off a break with a thunderbolt from the edge of the box.

Rob Guy swept in a fourth as Calne pushed up for a consolation. It came minutes later when Highmore bundled in a cross from defender Jake Jeffries.

With a few minutes remaining Guy pounced on a slip from keeper Haines to complete the rout.
