BIDDESTONE winger Luke Gullick is one step away from a professional football contract after spending a week on trial with League Two club Oxford United.

Gullick's four-day trial ends today with the possibility he will appear for Oxford Reserves in their match against Bournemouth tonight.

The 18-year-old, who found out about the trial in January, is hopeful of achieving a professional contract and is awaiting the final decision about his future on Friday.

Gullick, of Monkton Park, Chippenham said: "I have been really excited from the first moment I knew they wanted to give me a trial.

"I have done well so far and have had many compliments from the other players and coaches."

He has been training with the youth squad since Monday but is looking forward to training with the full side today and is even more excited about the prospect of playing in the reserves.

"It has been a brilliant week, I can't wait to see if I play in the reserves on Thursday."

Gullick's highlight of the week was meeting one of his football heroes and ex-Swindon Town goal scorer Tommy Mooney.

"It was amazing to meet Tommy as I always used to follow him when he was at Swindon. He is a superb player and has played in the Premiership."

Gullick is more than happy with his performances and is staying positive about completing his dream and playing in the Football League.

"It is my dream to play in the league and I have another good opportunity to do so." The winger spent three years at the Southampton Football Academy and had trials with Bristol City.

"It is extremely disappointing when you don't pass trials but maybe this time I might be successful."
