GAZETTE & HERALD:A PLAN to boost the profile of Neighbourhood Watch in Calne will be set in motion at a meeting tonight.
The meeting will be chaired by Inspector David Cullop and Wiltshire Constabulary's Neighbourhood Watch and crime reduction officer, Kate Turner.
It follows a report to the town council by Sgt Peter Chamberlain of Calne police which said Neighbourhood Watch had recently been neglected.
Ms Turner said the Neighbourhood Watch scheme was considered by police to be very important but admitted it had not received much attention in the six months between her predecessor leaving the job and her appointment.
She said: "The purpose of this meeting is to discuss all the matters concerning Neighbourhood Watch from community issues to policing in the local area."
Ms Turner said the idea was not to take over the schemes but learn more about the people who are running them and build up contacts.
She said: "This meeting is bringing everything up to date again and finding out which cells are still active and which are not. We will then establish police commitment to new schemes."
The meeting will start at 7.15pm and future meetings will be held every three months.
