GAZETTE & HERALD: CALNE Town Council is making the dreams of a young cricketer come true by creating a new gift fund.
Liam Dawson, 14, from Hazel Grove in Calne, has been selected for the West of England side to tour the West Indies in March and April.
He needed to raise £1,700 to travel with the squad and contacted the town council requesting help.
They set up a new gift fund and donated £250 to Liam for his expenses.
In the future, budding sport stars will be able to apply to the town council for the gift fund with one athlete being granted the award every year.
Liam, who has represented Hampshire since he was eight, said: "I cannot wait to go. It should be good fun and I can test my cricket."
Proud father, Andy Dawson, said: "Different companies, a few friends and people from the cricket club have all helped and we're really grateful.
