Chippenham had a weekend off league action, resting comfortably on top of South West Two (East), and entertained Cooper Avon Tyres of Melksham in a friendly at Allington Field on Saturday.

The home side were 12-0 up after the first 15 minutes and the opening exchanges set the tone for the rest of the match, the Dorset and Wilts One North outfit struggling to deal with their higher league opposition.

The first try came from Keith Stokes with the conversion missed by Andy Williamson. This was followed shortly afterwards with a try from Scott Sherratt. This time the Williamson added the conversion.

Melksham then found themselves firmly camped in their own half for much of the remainder of the half. Jon Angell added two more tries to give Chippenham a 22-0 break.

CAT did manage to break away on several occasions only to loose possession, and Chippenham were able to make full use of stolen ball and winger Darren McMillan scored a fifth try.

After a lovely run by Stokes, he off-loaded to Sherratt who then dished the final pass to scorer McMillan.

Williamson added the conversion and the half-time score was a very healthy 29-0 to Chippenham.

The second half brought more of the same but both physios had a busy afternoon running on and off the pitch as play stopped frequently for injuries.

Sherratt added a sixth converted try for Chippenham followed by McMillan's second of the game. Again with the conversion by Williamson. 43-0 CRFC.

Halfway through the second half, the heavens opened and at times it was difficult for spectators to see the ball and distinguish the players. Despite the weather, Chippenham added two more tries before the final whistle.

Old Sulians 1st 6 Chippenham 2nd 16

Chippenham's second team came out on top of this friendly fixture and which was played in atrocious weather conditions in Bath on Saturday.

Chippenham ran into a very cold, biting wind during the first half and in the early exchanges the Bath side took the game to the visitors.

After ten minutes of solid defending, Chippenham worked to put together several phases of play and managed to gain some territory before Matt Spurway took a pop pass from fly-half Dan Reynolds. He broke through the cover tackle and crossed under the posts.

Sulians earned themselves two penalties during the remainder of the first half to see them go into the half-time break with a slender one point lead at 6-5.

Playing with the wind in the second half, Chippenham struggled to convert pressure into points. Conditions deteriorated further which made handling very difficult but Reynolds capitalised on two errors from Old Sulians and converted two penalties to give Chippenham the lead 6-11.

Late on in the half, substitute Dave Burrow crashed through the Sulians defence from a free kick ten metres out to make the game safe.

Chippenham skipper Dave Williams said after the game: "We have important league and cup games in the next few weeks and we need to work hard to raise our game to ensure we finish the season with some silverware."

Oldfield Old Boy's 2nds 20 Chippenham 3rds 0

This was only the third game of the year and it showed. Adding to Chippenham's woes, they only had seven forwards, and skipper Ian Bannister had to play out of position in the back row.

With 15 minutes to go before half-time, Chippenham conceded a try, but responded well, coming close to scoring themselves after fine runs by Jon Billet and James Cook.

Oldfield converted a penalty to give them a 10-0 lead going in to the break.

Chippenham were led well by Mike Wheeler and Ryan West in the second half, West making his debut in a senior side for the club.

But they were unable to score and Oldfield scored another two tries to wrap up the game.
