PLANS to transform the former Beckford Centre in Warminster into 24 sheltered flats have been given the backing of the town council.
Councillors voted against the proposals last month, asking the developer, Nash Partnership, to amend their scheme. The plans then went to West Wiltshire District Council and were referred back to the town council to let neighbours have their say.
On Monday, at the planning advisory committee, councillors in favour of the revised plans, which include 24 two-bedroom flats, and a community hall.
Cllr Chris March said: "I think this is a good scheme. The purpose built community hall is a lot better than the one there now."
Councillors added a proviso that planning officers could not approve the scheme but it would need to be discussed at committee.
