DANCERS from Bradford on Avon aim to be the first in the country to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.
The Jane Austen Dancers, who specialise in dances of the late Georgian and Regency period, are holding a ball at Devizes Town Hall tomorrow.
The hall was chosen because it was built just three years after the great battle, fought in 1805 off Cape Trafalgar on the Spanish coast between the Royal Navy and the combined fleets of France and Spain.
Group director Elspeth Reed said: "We will start off with a mariners march and have the Bath Spa Quartet performing for us, before we are served classic period food.
"As far as I know we are the first in the country to celebrate the Battle of Trafalgar, as the anniversary is not until October 21."
