IN the Wiltshire Times of February 11 about the new building in Frome Road, one resident is quoted as saying that the trees in Victory Field opposite had been cut down so that " .it could have a view across the field." This is absolutely not the case.
The town council has a contract with a firm of tree surgeons to maintain these trees: half of this two-year programme was carried out in November 2004 and the remainder earlier this month. It is essential, for reasons of health and safety, that the trees are maintained in good order, quite apart from any arboricultural reasons.
I would point out that the development is located opposite the entrance to Victory Field and not the Tithe Barn, and it consists of five town houses, not apartments.
On a separate matter, I should like local residents to know that various pedestrian safety measures on Frome Road were made a condition of the permission given for this development, but so far Wiltshire County Council have been unable to carry them out.

CLLR Feilding does say that it is architecturally a very good building. That may well be the case but is it a very good building for Bradford on Avon?
It may be absolutely super elsewhere (Milton Keynes or some other very modern place) but it does not fit in at all with our architecture here. It is totally at odds with its surroundings.
"There is no reason why you should not have a modern building in a conservation area" he said. THERE IS EVERY REASON.
This is an historic town. It is medieval. There is so little left in the UK we should protect it we would quite like to keep the uniqueness of our little town. Not only for our own pleasure, but for the benefit of future generations.
Modern is everywhere. Buildings that tone in with the character of B.o.A. do not have to be dark what an excuse!!
