THE Retired Greyhound Trust, a national charity dedicated to finding homes for ex-racing greyhounds, has announced a major target to place 3,000 greyhounds in new homes by the end of 2005.

And its regional operation in Swindon will be playing an important part in achieving this goal.

In 2004, the generosity of the public led to more than 2,700 retired greyhounds being rehomed, making it the most successful year for the trust.

If 3,000 of the dogs are found new homes this year, it will add to the 10,000 greyhounds that have been rehomed in the past five years.

Cathy Mantripp, national representative of the TRUST, said: "An increasing number of people have discovered the delights of owning a retired greyhound, and we're extremely confident that our challenging new target will be met."
