A TEENAGER jailed for a bottle attack in Trowbridge also assaulted his partner, a court heard on Friday.

Anthony Gibbings, 19, of Southway, Trowbridge, was jailed for two years earlier this month after pleading guilty to assault with intent to rob at Swindon Crown Court.

He attacked Matthew Bromley with a bottle in the town centre after asking him for money.

He was sentenced to

a further 28 days in prison, to run concurrently, at Chippenham Magistrates' Court after admitting common assault on his partner on April 1, 2004.

Nicky Wootton, prosecuting, said the couple had a turbulent relationship.

On April 1 they were arguing and Miss Wootton said he punched her in the head while their seven-month-old baby was sitting in her lap.

Then he grabbed the baby and put him in his cot upstairs before pushing her and punching her, giving her a black eye and a large bruise on her arm.

Andrew Watts-Jones, defending, said Gibbings disagreed that his partner was holding the baby when he punched her and said he did not cause the bruise.

Mr Watts-Jones said: "It was a volatile relationship and after the birth things became more difficult because she wouldn't let him have much contact with their child."

Gibbings has pleaded not guilty to an additional charge of common assault. A trial date has been set for May 16 at Swindon Crown Court.
