16590A VALENTINE'S Day engagement was sealed with an amethyst ring for a Trowbridge couple who fell in love while working together.
Tyrone Hale, 21, decided to take the old-fashioned route to marrying 18-year-old Natasha McCaw, and asked her mum for permission before going down on one knee.
He said: "I did it because it is old-fashioned. I wanted to do it the right way."
The couple have both worked at the Trowbridge Oaks nursing home in the town for nearly two years.
Mr Hale works as a kitchen assistant and Miss McCaw is a care worker, and the pair had become friends before falling in love.
Mr Hale said: "We went out for a drink one night and just clicked. Being engaged doesn't feel any different, we are still just as happy."
He decided to surprise his girlfriend by proposing on her birthday, February 11.
The couple had already chosen a ring a gold band with an amethyst, which is Miss McCaw's birthstone but he wanted to keep the moment he would propose as a surprise.
They then officially announced their engagement on Valentine's Day.
The pair, who were both former pupils at the John of Gaunt School, but never knew each other as children, plan to wait a few years before actually tying the knot.
They hope to save enough to buy their first home before marrying and hope to have the actual ceremony abroad.
They are planning to have an engagement party in the summer.
