A FRESHBROOK man overdosed only days after discharging himself from a rehabilitation centre.
Heroin addict Kenneth Sullivan, 36, of Crawford Close, was pronounced dead at the Ibis Hotel in West Swindon on April 17, last year.
The inquest heard he had been staying at the hotel with his girlfriend Lisa Takle, when in the early of the hours she found syringes in the bathroom and he had turned blue.
Paramedics were unable to revive him. A post-mortem revealed he had died from a heroin overdose.
The inquest heard that the couple had met at the Frenchay Rehabilitation Centre in Weston-Super-Mare, but they discharged themselves on April 5, because their relationship was not allowed under the unit's rules.
The evening before, the couple had gone to a pub, and he picked up a £10 bag of heroin.
Coroner David Masters recorded a verdict of death by drug abuse.
said: "I have heard a story this afternoon of a long history of drug taking.
"It's a tragedy that it seems Kenneth wanted to wean himself off those drugs and had gone to Frenchay, but having discharged himself he once again succumbed to them, leading to his death."
