Young Swindon dancer Amber Wollen is making her debut appearance on TV next week in the gripping drama, Cherished, based around the court case of Angela Canning.

Angela Canning was released from jail after an appeal court overturned her conviction for killing her two sons.

The Salisbury mother was freed from her life sentence following uncertainty among medical experts over the causes of cot death, which she always insisted had killed her sons Jason and Matthew.

The drama follows her harrowing story.

Four-and-a-half year old Amber, from Upper Stratton in Swindon, has been a pupil at The Tanwood School of Dance and Performing Arts, run by Mollie Tanner and her daughter Pollyann, for the past two years.

Amber's mum, Gayle, is also a former Tanwood girl who danced with the Northern Ballet in Bath.

"Amber auditioned for the part with 20 other Tanwood girls and she was the only one called back for a second audition,'' she said.

The Beechcroft Infant's School pupil beat off around 300 hopefuls to win the part of Jade, the daughter of Angela Canning.

"She plays Jade in her younger years from three to four and a half and then a second girl plays her from five to six and a third from six to seven,'' said Gayle, who is no stranger to auditions herself.

"I was up for auditions when I was at Tanwood so knew what to expect. We went up to London and the programme was filmed for eight days in October,'' she said.

Amber has appeared in two Tanwood shows at the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon already.

Both her mum, who is a beauty therapist, and her dad, Kane, who works for a private hire company, are really proud of her.

But Gayle says that Amber's little brother Ben, two, doesn't look set to follow the family dance footsteps as yet.

Cherished is a one off drama screened on BBC1 on Tuesday at 9pm.
