WILTSHIRE police are kicking off a new drive to recruit more special constables throughout the county.
It will launch its new recruitment pack next Monday for the drive which runs until March 11 and which will follow a National Specials' Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
The pack has been put together with funding from the Home Office, which is designed to modernise the image of special constables.
Special constables have the same powers as regular police constables.
They must be aged between 18 and 54 and be able to spare 16 hours a week.
Jane Taylor, a freelance hairdresser, who is a special constable in Marlborough, having joined in November, said: "It's really the most interesting and diverse voluntary role you could wish for."
A spokesman for Wiltshire police, said: "Being a special constable is a rewarding way to occupy your spare time.
"It's a commitment to yourself and your local community."
There is a special constables awareness evening at Swindon Central police station on March 8.
