With reference to the article "Head figures on maths academy" (Friday, January 21).
It amazes me how Mr Fleet proposes to "create the first specialist maths, science and computer school in Swindon''.
Both my children have attended Hreod Parkway School and have been severely let down by the maths department.
My eldest daughter, now aged 20, had five maths teachers in five years at the school, many of whom were supply teachers filling in with no enthusiasm for proper education.
In order to fulfil my daughter's education I had to pay hundreds of pounds for a private maths tutor at home. This situation had to be repeated for my youngest daughter and thanks to this action, she achieved higher than her predicted grade. With no help from the school.
I do know of this not being the only bad case of maths teaching within the school as a number of parents I have spoken to have had similar experiences.
