A NEW mobile toy library for disadvantaged children has hit the streets of Swindon.
The scheme, which is funded by Sure Start, in Everleigh Road, Penhill, was launched yesterday by Julia Drown, the Labour MP for South Swindon.
Members of the Sure Start Mothers and Toddlers Group were also at the opening.
Alan Tarrant, one of the six volunteers behind the idea, said: "The launch went very well. Ms Drown came and had a look round and spoke to the parents. She seemed impressed with it.
"The parents gave a lot of positive feedback and some joined there and then.
"It's been a very positive start. Hopefully the message will get out that we are up and running and ready for business."
Parents pay £3 to join the service and then a further £1 to hire a toy for two weeks 50p of which will be refunded on return of the item.
The toy library will visit Penhill and Pinehurst each week.
Ms Drown said: "This toy library is a wonderful facility for local parents.
"A lot of work has gone into creating it by committed parents in the community and the result is a great facility."
