THE case against a Nythe man accused of starting a blaze at his home has been adjourned after he had a stroke.
Graham Steele, who had been remanded in custody at Bristol prison, was transferred to the city's Frenchay Hospital to receive treatment, a judge at Swindon Crown Court was told.
It is thought that the 32-year-old will make a good recovery from the stroke but he is not fit to attend court at the moment.
Philip Warren, prosecuting, said that a letter from a neurosurgeon dated January 14 said he would not be able to go to court for three months.
Steele, of Ashbury Avenue, Nythe, is accused of arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.
The charge relates to a blaze on Friday November 19 last year at the house where he was living which belonged to Sherrie Bennett.
He was due to enter a plea to the charge at the latest hearing but could not attend, so has yet to plead.
Steele was remanded in custody, although he is still in hospital, until a hearing next month when it is hoped he may be well enough to attend.
