15444/1GAZETTE & HERALD: AN APPLE a day keeps the doctor away, as youngsters at Tumble Tots nursery in Chippenham have been learning this week.
It is part of a new Eat Fit Keep Fit campaign launched by the nursery, backed by Olympic gold medallist Sally Gunnell.
A health survey found that by the year 2020 over 50 per cent of children in the country will be classed as obese, so the aim of the campaign is to help youngsters change their eating habits for the better.
Leaflets and stickers giving tips on healthy eating and some quick, easy meal ideas have been handed out to parents at the Malmesbury Road nursery.
And each child received a free apple this week to kick-start the week-long campaign.
Vikki Matcham, from Tumble Tots, said: "Living a healthy lifestyle means not just being active but also eating the right food. It is important that the whole healthy living lifestyle is introduced from a young age if we want to build a healthier nation."
"We hope many more pre school establishments will take advantage of the valuable information provided by the campaign. All they have to do is ring me for the Eat Fit Keep Fit leaflets and they can benefit from supplied recipes and healthy eating tips," said Ms Matcham.
