LEE Burns' debut as player manager of Melksham was ruined by a last minute winner on Saturday.
Burns was appearing as boss for the first time since Nigel Tripp walked away from the Conigre after the 10-0 humiliation against Bideford. He will have to wait until Saturday to try and record his first three points at Keynsham Town. He said: "That will be another tough game, I went down to watch them last week, they are a big strong team."
Goals from Jamie Cheeseman and Simeon Allison were not enough to beat battling Welton. "We did not have any luck and their penalty was harsh. Defence cost us points and we have to tighten up at the back," he added.
Burns has already added to his squad by signing midfielder Hal Davis from Odd Down.
The home side took the lead on the half hour mark when Cheeseman ran on to a ball from Davis and slotted it past the advancing keeper.
Two minutes into the second half the visitors were level with the help of a long throw. The ball whistled past Burns and into the path of the striker who drove past Bradley Williams.
After an hour the lead was restored when Liam Byfield's long ball was met by Allison, who gave the keeper no chance with a tremendous half volley.
In the 80th minute the scores were even when the ball struck a defender's arm and the referee awarded a penalty.
With full time approaching Davis' clearance hit an attacking player on the chest and fell to a Welton player who smashed the ball in.
