GAZETTE & HERALD: WILTSHIRE County Council is moving car sharing signs along a busy road after complaints from Calne Town Council.
Signs were put up without consultation in November to encourage people to share cars and cut down on pollution and congestion. But the council felt they were not put in the right place and have asked for the signs and their poles to be taken down.
Coun Paul Atkinson, who chairs the town council's planning and economic regeneration committee, admitted it was a waste of taxpayer's money blaming a lack of consultation.
"Wiltshire County Council just put them up without talking to us," he said.
"We were not too happy about that and a letter was written and the county council has agreed to move them over the next financial year.
"They are not in aesthetically pleasing sites and to read them people have to drive along slowly or not concentrate on the road in busy areas.
"They were also not attached to existing posts to keep the cost down."
A spokesman for the county council said only one sign was to be moved at a negligible cost. "The location in Calne was chosen as one of the ten worst congestion hotspots in the county. The town council has been in touch to suggest that it would prefer another location and we have agreed."
