NEWS on the future of Swindon social services director Keith Skerman, pictured, is expected in the next few days.
It is believed the 51-year-old, who has been off for five weeks, will be leaving.
Swindon Council chiefs have refused to confirm whether the father-of-three will return but leader Mike Bawden said an announcement would be made.
He said: "All I can say is that there will be a press release coming out in the next few days."
The news comes in the same week that chief executive Simon Birch resigned after deciding the town needed a fresh approach.
Rumours are rife that both posts could be filled by directors from Kent County Council who have already signed a £3.6m deal to haul social services out of the doldrums.
Mr Skerman faced a serious setback in November, when promises to improve standards were shattered by a damning government inspection.
Social services- which care for the town's neediest people- has now been zero-rated for three years running.
